About

Disclaimer: I wrote this as an intro to my blog in 2012, and although I should update it to something more professional and reflective of who I am now, there’s something about this tentative start to my “putting my writing out there” that I feel tender and protective about. It is still very much me and I still really like to be called darlin’…

My name is Jaime Alexis Stathis. I reliably answer to Jaime, Alexis, Stathis, and JAS, but often respond to variations on the above. I really like to be called darlin’.

I’ve wanted to be a writer ever since I read Little House in the Big Woods thirty years ago. I wanted to be Laura the girl as much as I wanted to be Laura the writer. I graduated with a writing and rhetoric degree in 1996, and thought I’d fall right into a glamorous writing career. Then I remembered that I was twenty-two years old and didn’t have a lot to say. I wanted to write stories—and I had some—but I didn’t have any distance or perspective to write about them. I’ve been busy since then. I’ve lived and worked all over the place, and all the while I’ve been intensely observing people. We are interesting. All of us.

A number of people have suggested over the years that I start a blog to document and write about my here-there-and everywhere adventures. I wasn’t into it. I wasn’t at a point in my life where I wanted to share my every move, and just didn’t understand the purpose of blogging. I didn’t read many blogs and didn’t understand the trend. I get it now.

I started this blog because I want in on the conversation. I have more than a couple incomplete books-in-progress. I write fiction and non-fiction, but any way you slice it: I love stories. I want to use this blog to tell stories, and I hope a conversation will begin and I’ll hear some stories from you as well.

I’ll go first.

After perusing your blog for the last hour I think to myself, “I sure hope she isn’t blinded by the Freshly-Pressed spotlight.” Keep the good stuff coming!

That’s funny, Jenny! The Freshly Pressed spotlight is a little intense, but it feels good. So far all nice comments, but i know those days don’t last forever. Thanks, Jaime

  3. I will gladly share stories, although I think I am getting the better end of the deal.

Hey, Jamie! I’m releasing a new segment of my blog’s “Taboo Tab” (http://shaunanagins.com/the-taboo-tab/) on the “Sex, Lies, and Storytime” theme and was wondering if you would be interested in submitting something? Take a look at the project and then let me know by contacting me through the Taboo Tab page or the About/Contact page.

    Merci!

      Thanks, Nora!

  6. You are inspiring!! Laura and all of those stories are such a bright spot in my past…I just love the rustic natural living. Beautifully told about here! You make me want to change my story, (or about)! 🙂 inspired by you.

Thank you, Hannah! I look forward to checking out your blog. I say go ahead and change your story or any part of it including your “about.” Inspiration makes the world go around, yes?

    How’d you find me?

  8. Finding new people on Word Press is fun! Was visiting Michele Seminara, who follows my blog, http://bythemightymumford.wordpress.com/, saw your comment and Gravatar…decided to look you up. I have a slight (?) preference 🙂 toward redheads and folks who blog stuff I can use. I am (or was once) a redhead myself, until going bald and grey. I also share in Ron Dubour’s blog…http://ourpoetrycorner.wordpress.com/…!
